About the species

The Tundra Bean-Goose is a large, plain-looking goose with a sturdy, unshowy feel. One detail that stands out is the dark bill with an orange band across it, and in flight it has a heavy, confident shape.

It usually moves in small groups and often mixes with other grey geese. Its call is loud and honking, so you may hear it before you spot it.

It breeds in the northern tundra and migrates south for winter. On passage and in winter, it turns up in places with open water and quiet resting spots.
