About the lake

At 519 metres above sea level, Novopyatigorskoe Lake is an artificial lake fed by the Podkumok River. Its shores have contrasting edges: one is faced with slabs and adjoins a park, while the other opens onto the river. From the beaches, there are views of Mashuk and Beshtau.

Filling began in 1961, and the lake officially opened in June 1965. Before each bathing season, the water is drained and the lake is filled again from the Podkumok. This annual cycle links the lake’s upkeep to the river and its seasonal use.

Birds recorded nearby include hooded crow, great crested grebe, mallard, European green woodpecker and Eurasian jay.
