About the park
Victory Park’s ground carries a clear trace of its construction: in the 1990s, the main hill of Poklonnaya Hill was excavated and shifted to the eastern part of the grounds. The reshaped relief is evident in the artificial hill beneath the monument to the Defenders of the Russian Land. Trees were planted around a memorial stone in 1961, three years after the stone was set up. The Years of War fountain complex, opened in 1995, adds water to this deliberately remade landscape; its 225 jets represent the 225 weeks of the war.

The idea for a memorial to the Great Patriotic War was proposed by architect Yakov Chernikhov in 1942, but construction began only in the second half of the 1980s. The work prompted protests from residents who wanted Poklonnaya Hill preserved. The complex opened on 9 May 1995, marking the 50th anniversary of Victory.
Birds recorded nearby include the hooded crow, rock pigeon, common chaffinch, fieldfare and great tit.
