About the park
Moskvoretskiy dendropark covers three hectares in the Mnevnikovskaya floodplain of the Moscow River, within Moskvoretsky Park. Its plantings are arranged in six climatic zones, extending from the Far East and Siberia through parts of Asia, European Russia and Western Europe to North America. The collection includes 63 species of conifers, 275 species of deciduous trees and 784 species of deciduous shrubs. Another 15 species are aquatic or grow along the water. Unpaved and paved paths cross the site, which also has an artificial pond.

The dendropark was conceived as an educational collection, with plants grouped by region to support student study and environmental education for schoolchildren. Before work began, the site was a landfill containing about 5,000 cubic metres of household solid waste. The rubbish was cleared in autumn 2010; in spring 2011, self-sown shrubs and low trees were removed, fertile soil was brought in and the first plants were planted. The park opened on 1 October 2011. After a fire, the entrance pavilions were demolished in 2019. In 2020, information boards, benches and the wooden fence were dismantled after being damaged by vandalism.
