About the park
Murinsky Park occupies the floodplain of Murinsky Stream, with the stream valley forming its natural backbone. The main area lies between Lunacharsky Avenue, Rustaveli Street, Northern Avenue and Kultury Avenue; the park also includes a green area between Northern Avenue and Akademika Baikova Street. East of Grazhdansky Avenue, it takes in a further section of the stream’s floodplain.

The idea of making the floodplain a recreation area was put forward in the 1980s, but remained on paper for many years. Reclamation work on the land and stream channel began in the early 2000s; the first phase was developed in the upper reaches, west of Svetlanovsky Avenue. In June 2018, a further floodplain section east of Grazhdansky Avenue was added to the park after improvement works, and a ski-roller track was created there. Anti-tank obstacles have remained in this section since the Siege of Leningrad. The sculpture garden created by Alexander Chernitsky dates from 1985. Four of the six statues from that period survive, all granite: “Rising Sun”, “Girl”, “Earth” and “Cannibal”. In 2001, students of the Roerich Art School added wooden animal figures resembling Slavic idols.
Birds recorded nearby include the hooded crow, European goldfinch, mallard, Eurasian magpie and black-headed gull.
