About the park
PKiO Yunost lies in Kaliningrad's Leningradsky District, near Upper Lake and the junction of Azovskaya and Telmana streets. The lake is the park's closest natural landmark.

The park emerged after the war. On 5 May 1961, the district executive committee formally decided to open a district park of culture and recreation on Telmana Street. In the 1980s and 1990s, it had amusement rides and a boat station. After a period of decline, development threatened the park in 2004. Local residents wrote to Lyudmila Putina, whose childhood was spent in the neighbouring district; with her support, the park was saved. New rides, a children's motoring town and an artificial-ice rink followed. Construction of the Centre for the Development of Interpersonal Communications began in 2004. Its building, in the Russian classical style, recalls a 19th-century noble estate; the centre opened on 1 September 2007.
