About the park
On the Teplostan Upland, Birulevo forest park’s north-eastern edge follows the deep valley of the Yazvenka River. Biryulyovsky Stream runs through the western part, with a pond at its headwaters; a second pond lies in the south-west. Birch and oak groves grow alongside conifer plantings and broad-leaved stands that include elm and lime. Clearings with ornamental shrubs and numerous alleys lie among the wooded areas. Flowering plants include lily of the valley, lungwort and spreading bellflower; small periwinkle locally dominates in planted pine stands.

The forest park covers about 165 hectares in southern Moscow, beside Tsaritsyno Forest Park, and its boundaries reach the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) and city streets. It forms part of Tsaritsyno Natural and Historical Park, while the Biryulyovsky Arboretum occupies its western section. Among Moscow parks, it ranks second after the Botanical Garden for the number of rare tree and shrub species. The Yazvenka River has been designated a natural monument since 1991.
The forest park is home to golden orioles, song thrushes, tree pipits and goldcrests, and three species of birds of prey nest there. Birds recorded nearby include the great tit, Eurasian blue tit, common chaffinch, great spotted woodpecker and rock pigeon.
