About the park

Soviet Pond lies within Perovsky Park, while a small unnamed pond adjoins its eastern side; Big Perovsky Pond is on the park’s historic grounds. Together, these waters extend from the present park into the wider estate landscape. The park covers 15.6 hectares between Lazo, Kuskovskaya, Perovskaya and Korennaya streets.

The Elizabethan linden park took shape in the Perovo estate in the mid-18th century, with architect D. I. Zhilyardi involved in its regular layout. A wooden summer palace designed by F. B. Rastrelli stood on the southern shore of Church Pond, later called Kupavensky Pond. The building order was issued in September 1747, and the palace was ready by the following spring. The pond had been dug in Peter the Great’s time over underground springs; the palace stood for only a few years before it was dismantled. Its drawings survive, and the Moscow Theatre of Illusions now occupies its site. The estate’s Church of the Sign was built from 1699 to 1705 on the orders of P. A. Golitsyn, in the Naryshkin Baroque style. During the Second World War, an anti-aircraft battery protecting Perovo railway station stood in the park, which was heavily damaged by bombing. In 1947 it was refurbished and became a municipal park of culture and recreation.

Great tits, Eurasian blue tits and mallards have been recorded nearby.
