Founded on 28 August 1936, the garden became a scientific centre for studying the flora of the Urals and neighbouring regions. Research examines how woody and herbaceous plants new to the Middle Urals adapt to local conditions, while the garden also maintains collections of rare and endangered species. Together, this work links cultivation with the conservation of native flora. Other research focuses on forest-forming species and ways to restore land affected by industrial pollution.

Birds recorded nearby include the Eurasian magpie, hooded crow, great tit and willow tit.
