About the park
The massif’s highest summits, Bolshoy Iremel and Maly Iremel, are divided by a saddle. Forest gives way at higher elevations to mountain tundra, and the Tyulyuk and Tygyn bogs occupy part of this upland landscape. The Belaya rises here; one purpose of the park is to maintain the water regime at the headwaters of the Southern Urals’ largest rivers.

Near the boundary with Chelyabinsk Region, ridges visible from the massif include Avalyak, Bakty and Yamantau. The highlands have 48 mountain-tundra plant species, 11 of which occur only in this part of Bashkortostan. They include Dryas octopetala, Lagotis uralensis and Arctic willow. The endemic Iremel rhodiola has fallen to critically low numbers because of rhizome harvesting.
Rare animals recorded within the park include the black stork, willow ptarmigan and grey partridge. Birds recorded nearby include the Siberian jay, Eurasian jay, coal tit, willow tit and common raven.
Bolshoy Iremel rises to 1,582 metres above sea level. Alongside Bolshoy and Maly Iremel, the protected areas authority identifies Zherebchik as another summit in the massif. The park’s official page provides visitor information and materials for planning a trip.
