About the park
For almost four kilometres south-east of Upper Kuzminsky Pond, woodland stretches through the park, with pines making up more than 70 per cent of it. Birch woods cover substantial areas in the south, while old black alder stands grow in the Ponomarka floodplain. In 1991, the pine forest with spruce south of the pond and the Ponomarka valley’s black alder woods were designated natural monuments. Mishkin Pond is artificial: it was created in 1973–1974 on the initiative of forester Mikhail Smirnov.

The Kuzminki estate occupied this area from the early 18th century. Its first owner was Grigory Stroganov, who received the land from Peter I; it later passed to the Golitsyns. In the late 18th century, the estate’s owners built a cascade of four ponds on the river, which survives today. Architect V. I. Dolganov drew up the park’s general plan in 1936–1937. Between Kuzminskaya Street and Chugunnye Vorota Street, paths follow the pattern of the former French formal park, where twelve radial avenues converged at the centre.
Among the birds recorded nearby are the great tit, hooded crow, mallard and Eurasian tree sparrow.
