About the park
The ground beneath the Littorina Terrace at South Seaside Park was once marshland. The park now covers 58 hectares between Peterhof Highway, Dobrosti Street, Marshal Zakharov Street and Duderhof Canal. In the regular southern section, avenues pass among spruce, lime and oak; the northern, landscape-style section is more like woodland. Two artificial ponds are joined by a channel, and small islands sit in the water.

The park was created between 1960 and 1970 to mark the centenary of V. I. Lenin, by a team led by architect A. G. Lelyakov. The plan called for a broad avenue to cross both the formal southern section and the landscape-style north, continuing towards the Gulf of Finland, but it was never carried out. The northern edge was formed on reclaimed land, and residential development began there in the 2010s. Until 1992 the park was named after Lenin; its memorials were altered in later years. In November 1999, an explosion destroyed the 28-metre Sickle and Hammer monument. In 2005, the inscription “100 Years of V. I. Lenin” on the monument at the entrance was replaced with “60 Years of Victory”, and the fountain was restored.
