About the park
A bird walk at Abramtsevo connects an old estate park with the Vorya valley. The ground descends from the wooden manor house towards the river, with avenues and ponds above the riverside landscape. Water and trees lie close together, shifting the focus from a pond's surface to branches over a path, and from trunks on the slope to crowns outlined against the sky.

Attention to nature also belongs to Abramtsevo's literary history. Sergey Aksakov lived here from 1843 and wrote books about fishing and hunting, including Notes on Fishing. Later, under Savva Mamontov, the estate became a centre for artists and traditional crafts. The museum marks 10 October 1918, when the estate received a charter of protection, as its birthday.
A European Green Woodpecker was recorded on the estate on 23 May 2021. It often searches for ants on the ground, so keep an eye on the grass beneath the trees as you walk. Its red crown and green back help with identification, while its loud, laughing call may reveal it before you notice any movement.
