About the park
The pines of Serebryany Bor grow on an island in a bend of the Moskva River. Lake Bezdonnoye and reedbeds lie beside the drier woodland, allowing forest birdwatching to continue at the water’s edge. Tall trees, open shores and dense waterside vegetation make this a particularly interesting place to compare habitats. A call from a tree crown and movement on the water belong to different parts of the same landscape.

The island was formed in 1937 when the Khoroshyovsky navigation canal cut across the river bend. The woodland predates this engineering work: some of its surviving pines are more than a century old. Serebryany Bor received natural-monument status in 1991. Its history brings together old woodland, a river channel altered for navigation, and recreation along the shore.
Common Chaffinch, Eurasian Golden Oriole and European Honey Buzzard are recorded in Serebryany Bor. The pale wing bars of the Common Chaffinch are a useful feature when a bird pauses on an exposed branch. For waterside observations, the 1.2-kilometre “By Lake Bezdonnoye” nature trail provides a change from pine woodland to shoreline vegetation, connecting two contrasting parts of the island landscape.
For a longer walk, the 5.5-kilometre In Harmony with Nature trail starts at Lake Bezdonnoye and crosses Serebryany Bor. It follows the lake’s inlets, woodland and forest edges to the opposite bank of the Moskva River.
