About the park
North River Station Park lies beside the Khimki Reservoir and stretches along Leningrad Highway. Three avenues run parallel to the road; a fourth cuts across them, linking different parts of the park. At the river station, a waterfront promenade more than 1.2 kilometres long faces the reservoir, with an amphitheatre built into its slope. Inside the park, a 400-metre stream recreates the Moscow Canal. Brass miniatures of the station building and the canal’s locks stand along its course.

Before the park was laid out, its site belonged to the suburban village of Nikolskoye. The park was created between 1936 and 1938, after the opening of the Moscow Canal, as a place for river-station passengers to rest. Builders formed an artificial terrace from fill, and landscape-gardening engineer T. P. Shafransky designed an axial plan with intersecting avenues. The original design featured 14 sculptural groups and fountains in all, almost all of which have since disappeared. When reconstruction was completed and the park opened in 2020, the surviving fountain basins and the sculptures Waterway and Sport were restored. The site also has a film connection: Volga-Volga was filmed here in 1938.
Mallards, great tits and Eurasian tree sparrows have been recorded nearby.
