About the park
In the south-east of Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo, the Chernushka runs through a cascade of seven flowing ponds; the Khimka flows in the north-west. Woodland covers about 150 hectares, roughly 62 per cent of the park, and the trees average around 90 years in age. Pine and oak woods, birch and lime groves grow here, while black alder follows the Khimka. Springs lie in the river valley, and both the valley and the springs are designated natural monuments.

The estate grounds retain a main house dating from the 1800s, an orangery in ruins from the 18th–19th centuries, and a church built in 1750 with fragments of walls from the 1620s. Moscow’s 1935 master plan proposed a Khimki water park as part of a green ring around the capital. Landscape architect Mikhail Korzhev designed a water parterre in the Khimka valley, centred on a bell-shaped fountain with smaller fountains around it; waterfalls were planned for the slopes descending from the pine forest. The scheme remained on paper.
Rare birds listed for the woodland park include the black woodpecker, coal tit and red-breasted flycatcher. Waterfowl use the ponds. Birds recorded nearby include rock pigeon, Eurasian tree sparrow, great tit, mallard and Eurasian blue tit.
