About the park
The Bolshoy Sadovy Pond lies in the northern part of Timiryazevsky Park. Elsewhere, clearings divide the woodland into 14 quarters, their open lines marking the boundaries between forest stands. The Zhabenka River runs through the park, although most of its course is now enclosed in an underground collector. Natural amphibian populations have been preserved here, including common frogs, moor frogs, lake frogs and smooth newts.

In the 16th century, the village of Semchino stood on this land; it was later renamed Petrovskoye-Razumovskoye. In the 17th century, the village belonged to Kirill Naryshkin, grandfather of Peter I. Peter also visited the local woodland and planted several oak trees. The Petrovsky Agricultural and Forestry Academy was founded here in 1865, and forester Alfons Vargas de Bedemar took charge of establishing the Experimental Forest Dacha. Since then, research here has examined the growth and productivity of stands of the principal forest-forming species. Experimental plantings were carried out under the guidance of foresters M. K. Tursky, N. S. Nesterov and V. P. Timofeev.
