About the park
The Landscape Park covers more than 87 hectares in the north-west of VDNKh, between the Green Theatre and the City Farm. Beside the Kamensky Ponds, near the Botanical Garden, an ecosystem display brings together plants of mixed woodland, meadow and waterside habitats. Sheremetyev Oak Grove lies within the park’s “Wild Nature” zone; oats, millet and silver phacelia are planted behind the Cosmos Pavilion in “Cultivated Nature”. The park’s design traces a transition from natural environments to landscapes shaped by people.

The choice of this site grew out of plans for an agricultural exhibition. An early proposal considered land around the Educational Town of the Timiryazev Agricultural Academy, where varied terrain, including marshy ground, could demonstrate farming under different conditions. In August 1935, the selected site shifted east of Ostankino estate park, to relatively level, sparsely populated land that included part of Ostankino Forest Park. The exhibition opened here on 1 August 1939. Its early plan combined pavilions with parks, experimental plots and a cascade of ponds; Pond Square marked the change from exhibition grounds to a recreation area. The modern Landscape Park was laid out in 2015–2017 to a concept by French architect Michel Pena.
