About the park

Krylya Sovetov Park is organised around a straight central avenue aligned with a monument on a broad circular lawn. Near the Lenin Cultural and Leisure Complex, a plaza is paved with concrete slabs; along the avenue, six-sided paving characteristic of Soviet parks was brought back during reconstruction. The open areas include a lawn for recreation and picnics, as well as activity areas set apart from walking paths. Lawns, avenues and surrounding city blocks shape the setting; the park description mentions no ponds or natural woodland.

The park was laid out in 1939 as Sotsgorod was being created. Before the Second World War, a tower for parachute jumps stood on the site now occupied by the Rubin football club sports school. The district’s aviation connection later became part of the park’s identity. In 1957, the central Alley of Glory was built with a monument to Lenin and eight busts of scientists and aviators, including Nikolai Zhukovsky, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Valery Chkalov and Pyotr Nesterov. When reconstruction led to the park’s reopening in 2016, its aviation theme remained in the design and its established layout was retained.

Birds recorded nearby include mallard, black-headed gull, Eurasian tree sparrow, hooded crow and house sparrow.
