About the park
Limes, oaks, and elms grow alongside conifers. Straight avenues cross the upper plateau, then give way to a landscape park descending through glades and ponds towards the Turovka River. This variety gives a bird walk plenty of focus: old trunks, dense crowns, open ground, and water lie close together. Following the activity of a single bird can draw attention to the structure of the whole park.

The park began to take shape in the early nineteenth century. Zinaida Morozova-Reinbot later transformed it, adding conifers and a spring-fed round pond. The museum was established in 1938 and opened to visitors in 1949. The preserved manor and its nineteenth- and early twentieth-century furnishings add another layer to a walk through the grounds.
Near the museum housing Lenin’s Kremlin study and apartment, a Eurasian nuthatch was seen taking two seeds at a time from a feeder and hiding them in an old woodpecker hole. A hawfinch was recorded nearby, and a spotted flycatcher elsewhere on the museum grounds. If you notice a bird carrying food, watch from a distance to see where it goes: a short flight may be part of storing a food supply.
